Woad Dyeing and Resist Art Workshops with Robin Paris

I offer batik workshops using British-grown woad (indigo) and natural vat techniques combined with paste-resist methods for imagery, pattern and texture. Formerly I worked with hot wax and synthetic dyes and ran many workshops utilising these from 1996 onwards (I may or may not return to wax in time).

Workshops are for beginners and improvers, for artists (batik, textile or other), art and textile groups, schools, further and higher education, and for environmental and community groups. Workshops are also available privately for individuals or small groups. Information about school and other community workshops can be found on the community art page.

I also give lectures and talks about my work, creativity, inspiration and motivation. I work with natural dyes, mostly woad and organic vat methods, and paste resists. As my batik life began with hot wax and synthetic dyes they are likely to form part of any talk or presentation.

If you would like to be kept informed about future workshops, please contact me on artisan (at) robinparis.co.uk to join my mailing list.

Previous Teaching

In 2006 I completed a post-16 PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) at Truro College in Cornwall (Plymouth University). Much of my research focused on ecological literacy, traditional ecological knowledge and ancient wisdom, and the relationship between arts, ecology, sustainability and education. It has greatly influenced my outlook and approach to the role of teacher, whilst reflecting experiences from my overseas travels of fifteen years earlier.
