Batik Workshops with Robin Paris

I have run a variety of workshops since 1996, for beginners and improvers, for batik artists, art groups and galleries, in schools, further and higher education, and for environmental and community groups. Information about school and other community workshops can be found on my community art page.

I also give lectures and slide talks about batik, creativity and inspiration, and about batik as an applied art.

In 2006 I completed a post-16 PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) at Truro College in Cornwall (Plymouth University). Much of my research focused on ecological literacy, traditional ecological knowledge and ancient wisdom, and the relationship between arts, ecology, sustainability and education. It has greatly influenced my outlook and approach to the role of teacher, whilst reflecting experiences from my overseas travels of fifteen years earlier.

If you would like to be kept informed about future workshops, please join my mailing list.

Batik - texture and repeat patterns

Thursday 11 - Friday 12 June 2009
Roseland Mews Studio, Liskeard, Cornwall, UK
£ 38 per day plus small materials charge.

Wire stamps are an effective way of waxing designs, shapes or marks for creating texture or repeat patterns in batik. On the first morning we will explore possibilities and limitations of using wire for printing wax by making simple tools, before developing designs for two or more connecting stamps in the afternoon. The second day will be devoted to making a finished batik or series of batiks using your stamps.

For those new to batik and those with some experience. Maximum 10 participants - places available

contact Jane Lockyer for more details and booking
