Batik Art - Robin Paris Wildlife and Environmental Paintings
Inspiration for my art and workshops comes from the wealth of the Cornish countryside around me, with influences from overseas travels. Natural history, environmental themes, cultural heritage and sense of place feature strongly, as do allegory, colour, design, texture and pattern. Endeavouring to develop an ecologically sound batik practice has brought inevitable yet exciting change and the buzz of learning new skills and finding unexpected openings! Most prominent are dyeing with woad, a renewable natural dye and Britain's original indigo; and utilising traditional, natural methods adapted for today's world. I run batik and woad dyeing courses and workshops for schools, community groups, arts and environmental organisations and art societies. I also give talks and lectures.
